The VFW is a non-profit organization made up of combat veterans, male and female, and are organized to support our community, local youth groups and veterans. Our funds for operating come from donations, and fund raisers such as our annual 'Veterans Day' parade and celebration, Buddy Poppy sales, and other activities.
What We Do
We provide a safe, clean and comfortable place for our fellow veterans to meet, support each other and just relax. Our canteen is open Monday through Thursday from 3pm until 8pm and Friday until 12am. We have entertainment in the canteen every Friday. Open noon on weekends.
As part of our commitment to community, we provide a safe, clean and friendly place for the local community to use for special events at an affordable cost.
Our canteen, called "Flight Deck Lounge", has legal electronic game machines called Veterans Sweepstakes or 'V-Sweeps' for short. when playing, all proceeds are donations to the VFW.
We sponsor scholarships programs for children from 6th through 12th grades. We provide scholarships up to $30,000. Every year, we award a scholarship to a graduating senior who is related to a member of our post.
Boy Scouts are the start of our commitment to our community, and country. we proudly support and sponsor Boy Scouts, and our local troop.
Post 4006 sponsors Little League baseball, and soccer.
Private entities who wish to display the flags at certain ceremonies, we offer 'Color Guard' Services.
We provide military burial services to those families who want their beloved veteran buried with Military Honors. We are limited to flag folding and presentation to next of kin, and playing of "TAPS".
Veterans who are in immediate need but temporary help, we offer assistance.
Should the schools ask, we offer student outreach in classrooms throughout Grimes County.
We donate to youth organizations and Volunteer Fire Departments.
