Our Approach

Brief Message from the Commander

As Commander Elect for the coming year 2018/2019, here is what I would like to implement at Grimes County VFW Post 4006.  First of all, I want to embrace the younger veterans to be a huge part of our future.  I want them to come forward and join our organization and share their ideas as to what they expect from an organization such as ours.  They ARE the future of our organization.  I want to get more involved with the youth of our community.  I want the community to recognize us as a moving force for good.   We, as a unit, must work together and help the veterans who are in need along with helping youth organizations learn how to be responsible citizens.  I also want to see our Auxiliary grow along with us as they have opened up membership to male spouses and others.  A strong auxiliary is of great assistance to a successful post.  I urge anyone reading this to encourage any eligible veteran to join us and to check back to this web site often to see just what we are doing.

Thank you.

Tony Lambert, Post 4006 Commander

Our Story

Our History

VFW Post 4006 received its’ charter on January 7, 1945.  Our present building was financed by the bank in Brenham and members signed for an amount they could afford in case of default. The loan was dated May 28th 1962 and construction started soon thereafter.  The exact date of opening is not to be found at this time, but it is believed to have been in early 1965.  Many changes have taken place over the years, but we remain dedicated to helping fellow veterans and their families along with assisting local youth groups.  We hosted the Vietnam Moving Wall in 1999 and a couple of years later we constructed a pavilion and park area behind the post home called ‘Reflections’ park.  It contains four bays with bricks inscribed with names of veterans from the area along with an Eisenhower Ash Tree dedicated to the WWII veterans.  This tree came from the family home of General Dwight Eisenhower.  We are located just 22 miles south of College Station, Texas, home of Texas A&M University and its’ famous Corp of Cadets and the home of the Bush Presidential Library.  We invite everyone to stop by and visit us.
